ARTIST STATEMENT
Frankincense Lillie Refsland, age 11
Art is my medium for creating calm out of change.
Frankincense Lillie has received art lessons and training at Art on Earth in Reno, NV, Art Works in San Antonio, TX, Thrive Art School in Seattle, WA and CREATE Craft Studio in Eagle, ID.
Her work has been featured at the Northwest Reno Library in Reno, the Laurel Heights Art Show in San Antonio, Tougo Coffee in Seattle, and was a prized item at the Raise Your Caliber charity auction in Reno. Franki’s art is currently on display at vacation rentals in the Boise/Meridian area.
Frankincense has shared her art skills by hosting and teaching Craft Club for kids.
She co-wrote and illustrated Waiting for the Illuminati, available on Amazon.
Personal life events and strong feelings influence her art. Inspiration has also come from modern art like Carole A. Feuerman's The Double Diver, and classics like Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Her work in miniatures comes from a fear of shrinking.
Frankincense creates a map in her head of a project before she begins and encourages new artists to have a strong idea before starting.
She strives to create bigger (or smaller) and better art and sees each artistic piece as an opportunity for achievement. Working with recycled materials pushes her creativity and helps the environment. Frankincense is currently seeking to apprentice with a local sculptor in order to accelerate her understanding of the craft.
